Montag never really seems happy. He's unhappy with his wife, unhappy with his job, his society basically his whole life. He realizes there is something wrong with his society's way of life, and that the problem is not being able to read books. It actually kinda reminds me of the matrix. People live a drone like life and dont really know whats going on, exept for a few people, like the people in zion or the people who read. The firemen remind me of the agents, who's job is to seek out and terminate the "rebels". Montag is like an agent turned rebel, he realizes something is wrong and goes about trying to find out what it is while still working as a fireman.
